The Garra Rufa fish have a supreme appetite for human skin; delicately sucking feet and exfoliating dead skin. Native to the Euphrates, the popularity of the Garra Rufa became more prevalent when sought for Ichthyotherapy, with the belief the fish not only desquamated areas of affected skin but also secreted Ditharanol; both of which improved debilitating skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema. Due to their commercial popularity they can now be found in abundance across the world.
A member of the Cyprinidae family, and known among fish experts as Garra Flavatra the Garra Rufa is known to grow up to 5 cms and live up to 5 years if kept in optimal water conditions.  They are a hardy pleasant natured fish who have a natural instinct to suction and hoover the skin and living in the ideal environment, will be happy providing alternative pedicures, all day long.
