Memorypack

Concept

The Memorypack is a light transportable partition screen designed to create the sense of a domestic, informal intimacy within and around a space. This wall, designed to provoke the urge to make and display a private collection is reminiscent of the installations of Joseph Cornell. It is made up of two vacuum formed transparent and translucent acrylic panels. It is intended to contain partially obscured memorabilia, ornaments, decorative elements, messages, flowers and family photographs in the form of static and moving images and installations.

This free standing memory-scape, within the clear and translucent acrylic sandwich, can be filled with objects, optical fibre, images and electronics and they can be removed and it can be refilled quite easily. It also provides a tantalising, partially obscured view of the interior spaces beyond.

The Memorypack is the first in a series of screen elements that blur the boundaries between furniture, walls and lighting. These screens are designed to operate in compact and highly flexible environments where space is at a premium. The screen, as a structure, functions as a visual and psychological space divider. It is designed to provide some visual shielding and some privacy while the translucency ensures that light can travel through the screen to maintain high levels of ambient light in the environment where required.

Description

The Memorypack is a 2100mm high 1800mm wide space screen comprised of two vacuum formed acrylic skins, support legs and skeleton. Like a lightweight large screen the Memorypack can be easily moved to reconfigure room space or act as an ambience or identity generator. It can be easily pulled apart to transport and refilling. It is designed to take photos and small objects up to 500mm long, 200mm high and 40mm deep. The panels are ribbed with cable ducts to allow fibre optic lighting or power to any of the exhibition spaces. These spaces can take: post cards, book covers, flying ducks, magazine covers, mirrors, glass ware, dried flowers, ornaments, trophies, mementos, paintings, sculpture, family and children's art and photos of family, pets and favourite places.
