Project Objective : :

In order to connect the Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge (HZMB) to the traffic network of Hong Kong directly and effectively, a series of transport facilities will be implemented in Hong Kong.  The proposed 12 km long Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR) is one of these facilities and will connect the HZMB with the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities.


The HKLR will be completed in phase with the HZMB Main Bridge and the other related transport facilities in Hong Kong.  The above projects will open a new and direct connection route between Hong Kong, Macao and the Western Pearl River Delta region.

Description :

The project includes:-

  1. construction of a dual three-lane viaduct of approximately 9.4 km long;
  2. construction of a dual three-lane tunnel (with an additional climbing lane for the west bound traffic) of approximately 1 km long, plus construction of associated tunnel operation and maintenance facilities for the tunnel;
  3. construction of a dual three-lane at-grade road of approximately 1.6 km long;
  4. construction of a seawall of approximately 2.3 km long and reclamation of approximately 17 hectares (ha) of land for the construction of the proposed HZMB HKLR and the proposed associated tunnel operation and maintenance facilities;
  5. reprovision of an existing weather station, upgrading and modification of an existing wind profiler station, and provision of anemometers on the HKLR viaduct and the Airport Island; and
  6. associated ancillary works, including civil, structural, building, electrical and mechanical (E&M), geotechnical, site investigation, marine, environmental protection, slope, landscaping and drainage works, fire services, environmental mitigation measures, and traffic control and surveillance systems (TCSS).

Current Situation:

The two contracts of the HKLR project were awarded on 25 May 2012. Works commenced on 31 May 2012.
