Module 1 and A2 Full Licence

Taster Session

The course for riders who have little or no experience of operating other types of motor vehicles. This course is ideal for those that are unsure and would like to "dip their toes in" and test the water. The taster session is a 1 hour course and is conducted on a one-to-one basis in a safe off road environment.

Modula 1:

Module one includes the following specified manoeuvres and generally takes around 10-15 minutes to complete, the Test area is 40m x 125m.

  • Wheeling the machine from one coned area to another and using the stand
  • Doing a slalom and figure of eight in full control of machine
  • Cornering, hazard avoidance and controlled stop
  • U-turn
  • A slow ride
  • The emergency stop
  • At all times you treat the test as if you on a Public Highway and carry out the necessary shoulder checks.

There is a minimum speed requirement of 50 kilometres per hour (approximately 32 miles per hour) for the hazard avoidance and emergency stop exercises. The Module 1 test is not hard at all, it only becomes hard when training is below standard or practiced on un-realistic training areas. Our Instructors have the patience and knowledge to get you through the test and will demonstrate each section of the test and put you at ease and in the right direction, the test is completed at Multi Purpose Test Centres.

A2 Licence:

The 33BHP or A2 Licence is as follows, you must take your category A test on a motorcycle with an engine capacity of between 120cc and 125cc, which is capable of a least 100kph. Your category A licence will restrict you to riding machines up to 25kW (33bhp) for two years, after which you may ride any size machine

So, you could pass your test on the same size bike that you use for your CBT and then get yourself a 'big bike' (e.g. a 600cc machine), have it restricted to 33bhp (this typically costs between £50 and £150 depending on the bike, and some manufacturers fit the restrictor kits free of charge on certain models!). And don't forget having a restricted bike normally saves you money on insurance. Ride the bike for a couple of years and then get it de-restricted having got used to the weight and handling of it in the meantime.

The aim is to lay down the firm foundation of road craft and machine control and the attitude to pass the DSA motorcycle test Module's 1 and 2.

A typical course could be as follows:

  • 3 x 3 hour Road Riding sessions/Module 2
  • 1 x 2 hour Module 1 Training
  • 1 hour training before Module 1 Test
  • 2 hour training before Module 2 Test
